Waitangi 2011
Students from Taipa Area School celebrated a great start to 2011 by bringing home the Waitangi Ki-o-Rahi Iwi Bowl at Waitangi weekend.
In its second year, the Waitangi Iwi Bowl saw eight teams combine to make four super-teams resulting in high-quality play, close scores and a great spectacle.
Taipa students joined ranks with Te Rarawa, selected by team captain Paulette Lewis.
"The standard and level of play is just awesome to see" said Harko Brown.
The powerhouse of Ki-o-Rahi tihae, Te Rarawa, was again too strong taking the final 20 - 6 against Kerikeri.
Lewis says it was an awesome start to the year with training and games set to kick off in February in Taipa, Kaitaia and the Hukatere Challenge.
Games are played every Tuesday from 4pm at Kaitaia Intermediate School and junior trials are underway at Taipa Area School.
